What to expect in an audiology appointment?

You may have been referred for a hearing test, a hearing aid or are just looking to test your hearing. Either way, there are a number of things to expect in an audiology appointment.

An audiology appointment normally lasts between 30 minutes and one hour. The appointment will include:

- A discussion of your history, including questions on your hearing status as well as general ear health and symptoms such as tinnitus. This is also to ensure that there are no other underlying problems;

- An examination of your ears, which may include tympanometry to determine whether there are any problems with your middle ear;

- A hearing test;

- Discussion of the results and options;

- A hearing aid clinic trial (if appropriate).

This is a general template of what to expect, however, the appointment will focus on the needs of the client. Of course, questions are encouraged throughout the process, most audiologists would be more than happy to discuss your queries.
